Kano gov accepts resignation of Water Resources Commissioner Doguwa

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has accepted the resignation of the Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed this in a statement released on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Doguwa formally submitted his resignation letter on Monday, March 2, 2026, with immediate effect.

Reports suggest that his decision may be linked to the race for the Kano State chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Doguwa is said to be one of the aspirants in the party’s state congress scheduled to take place at Sani Abacha Stadium.

Governor Yusuf expressed his gratitude to Doguwa for his service to the state, describing him as loyal and committed.
“He served the people of Kano with dedication and responsibility,” he said.

The governor also recalled that Doguwa previously served as Commissioner for Education, where he played a role in implementing key reforms. During his tenure, the government declared a state of emergency in the education sector to address persistent challenges. He was later appointed to the Ministry of Water Resources.

Governor Yusuf noted that within one year at the Water Resources Ministry, Doguwa oversaw the repair of several water facilities and helped expand access to clean drinking water in multiple communities.

“His leadership strengthened the ministry and improved service delivery, in line with our goal of ensuring sustainable water supply for all,” he added.

The governor described Doguwa as disciplined and hardworking, noting that his contributions would remain part of the administration’s achievements.

He wished him success in his future endeavours and assured residents that the government would continue to improve the water sector.

Governor Yusuf also reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing steady water supply and improving living conditions for the people of Kano State.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, has been directed to oversee the Ministry of Water Resources until a new commissioner is appointed or reassigned.
