The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested two teenagers for allegedly planning a controversial birthday party for people they described as pimps during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Kano.
The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahideen Aminudeen, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Tuesday.
According to him, the teenagers—Umar Yahaya, 19, and Musa Al-Hassan, 18—used social media to invite people from different parts of the country to attend the gathering after the Eid prayer.
Aminudeen said the boys claimed to belong to a group locally known as Yan Daudu and planned to host a large celebration that would involve dancing and other activities considered immoral.
“It is disturbing that young boys of their age say they belong to such a group and even invite others who identify the same way,” he said.
He explained that the plan was for participants to gather after the Eid prayer for a birthday celebration that would involve behaviour the board considers inappropriate.
The official added that the boys also mentioned the Hisbah board and its leaders in their invitations, which he described as disrespectful.
Aminudeen said such activities could undermine the spiritual value of the Ramadan fast.
The Hisbah board has therefore instructed its officers to take action against anyone found engaging in immoral activities during the Eid period.
However, the two teenagers have apologised and expressed regret for what they did.
Aminudeen said further investigation showed that the boys lacked proper understanding of religion and guidance.
“They are still very young and inexperienced. It became clear that they do not properly understand Islam, good conduct, or life responsibilities,” he said.
Instead of taking them to court immediately, the board decided to place them under supervision so they can receive religious guidance and moral education.
He noted that simply sending young people to prison may not always solve the problem.
The Hisbah board also announced plans to increase monitoring at mosques and other public places during the final days of Ramadan.
