Kano police assure residents of safe Christmas, New Year

The Kano State Police Command says it has concluded security plans to ensure a safe, peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration across the state.

In line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, met with operational commanders on Sunday, December 22, 2025.

The meeting included heads of departments, area and tactical commanders, as well as divisional police officers.

According to the command, in a statement issued by its spokesman, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the police boss ordered intensified patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-led operations, and confidence-building engagements throughout the festive period.

“The Police Command has put in place adequate security arrangements in liaison with other Security Agencies to ensure the security of life and property before, during, and after the celebrations,” the statement said.

CP Bakori directed all operational commanders to ensure “adequate security at worshipping centers and recreational facilities,” round-the-clock visibility patrols, effective traffic control across the state, and wider intelligence gathering ahead of the celebrations.

The command also issued security advice to residents.

Members of the public were urged to “avoid suspicious objects” and remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious person, movement or item to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency numbers.

On road safety, the police warned that underage children and unlicensed persons must not operate vehicles, tricycles or motorcycles. Road users were also advised to avoid speeding, car racing and reckless driving.

The command announced a ban on all forms of unauthorized horse riding and stated that “the use of fireworks is completely banned.”

Parents and guardians were advised to accompany their children when going out to prevent cases of missing children, accidents or unwanted encounters.

The police further warned that any act likely to cause a breach of peace or breakdown of law and order during the celebrations would not be tolerated.

CP Bakori thanked residents for their continued support and cooperation and urged them to report suspicious activities through the emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926.
