The member representing Dala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, has defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal crisis within the party.
Gini, who is the Deputy Minority Leader of the House, announced his resignation in a letter dated March 10, 2026, addressed to the NNPP chairman of Yalwa Ward in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
Madakin Gini had previously distanced himself from the Kwankwasiyya movement, including abandoning the red cap associated with the group but maintained his membership of the NNPP.
The lawmaker said his latestdecision followed consultations with his supporters across the constituency, noting that the move was taken after a careful consideration despite his long-standing commitment to the party and the Kwankwasiyya movement.
He attributed his defection to divisions within the NNPP, stating that the party had split into factions loyal to its founder, Boniface Aniebonam, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with parallel leadership structures from ward to national level.
