Kebbi Rep defects to APC, cites PDP crisis

A member of the House of Representatives, Ibrahim Mohammed, representing Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mohammed announced his defection in a statement on Tuesday, citing ongoing leadership crises and internal divisions within the PDP.

“The persistent leadership crisis and internal conflicts within the party have made it increasingly difficult for committed members like myself to contribute meaningfully,” he said.

He added that the decision followed consultations with his constituents and political associates, noting that the move would enhance his capacity to deliver effective representation.

The lawmaker said he had formally communicated his resignation to his ward leadership in Nasarawa I Ward, Birnin Kebbi, and notified the Speaker of the House of Representatives of his defection.

His defection comes amid recent internal challenges within the PDP in Kebbi State, including the resignation of the party’s State Secretary, Abubakar Bawa.

The development adds to a series of defections from the PDP in the state, as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
