Kwa-Thema Sports Complex springs leak amid construction delays

Local newsNews

A major water leak at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex, likely caused by halted construction, gushes unchecked while residents are urged to fix minor drips — prompting calls for a full municipal investigation.

Clean water streams through the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex as construction efforts come to a halt. The metro often encourages residents to fix leaks to help curb water waste.

However, a serious water leak was left unattended for an unknown time at the sports complex. It is so big that the sound of the water rushing out of it might convince one that they are standing on a riverbank.

It appears a water pipe suffered damage during recent construction at the complex. After a site visit earlier this year, the Corporate and Shared Services Oversight Committee submitted a report to the council in March.

The report stated that they were shocked at the lack of work done.

Phase one of the construction included building change rooms, drainage systems, plumbing, electrical works, a guard house and a refuse yard.

The committee recommended that the matter go to the Municipal Public Accounts Committee for a full investigation.
Comment requested from the CoE was not received at the time of publication.
