Durban ā Three people are feared missing after the vehicle they were in was washed away during heavy rain in the Longacres Drive area, South of Durban.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the incident occurred in the night on Sunday, 21 December 2025.
Their mangled car has been found with no one inside.
Reports are that there were five occupants in the vehicle and two of them managed to escape the worst and have been accounted for.
However, the fate of the other three remains unknown.
Rescuers were on scene searching for the unaccounted persons.
Meanwhile, heavy rains in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) have also lashed Margate and Port Shepstone, leaving some roads unpassable, with trees and debris strewn across the thoroughfares.
KZN Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) and engineers have been deployed to assess road conditions and ensure the safety of motorists, international and domestic tourists.

Margate is a preferred destination for both international and domestic tourists.
āāWe have been informed that, as KZN, we are likely to welcome 34 000 international tourists and 1.1 million domestic tourists this festive season,ā shared MEC Duma.
āIn this regard, we want to ensure their safety.ā

MEC Duma said the RTI team was working with traffic departments in local municipalities as part ofĀ road cleanups to ensure accessibility.
āThere are bridges and road networks that have been flooded,ā he said.
āWe will also observe the Umzimkhulu River Bridge, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation.ā
