”L’affairisme d’État, c’est terminé”: Ousmane Sonko traces the new rules of the economic game

In his speech, the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, laid the foundations for the new economic paradigm in Senegal: a transparent, competitive private sector anchored in an economic patriotism. He also insisted on the commitment of the authorities to establish a framework conducive to the emergence of a strong private sector, integrated and truly at the service of national development. “We will combat and put an end to the practices which we have found in this country, where a part of the private sector was enriching itself through surcharges on markets allocated without transparency, by maintaining privileged relations with the public authorities. The Prime Minister has denounced the methods which have for a long time weakened the national economy, where enterprises prospered not by their performance, but through over-charged public contracts and privileged links with the government in place. From now on, competition will be based on merit, innovation and rigour, he says. The Prime Minister recalled that economic patriotism is not limited to simple slogans, but translates into concrete measures. As such, it recalls that patriotism is the motor uniting and driving all nations and states. Whether it is expressed openly or not, each country, each State has the primary mission of promoting and defending the interests of its people.
