The Lagos State Government has released a traffic advisory ahead of the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, December 13, beginning at 6:00 a.m.
The race is organised by the Society for Information and Human Advancement.
The notice, issued on Friday through the official X handle of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, outlined a series of planned traffic diversions to ensure the safety of athletes and maintain order along the marathon route.
According to the ministry, partial closures will affect several major and inner roads throughout Ajegunle, including Maracana Stadium axis, Ojoku Street, Baale Road, Kirikiri Road, Wilmer Link Bridge, Okito Street, Kopariwo Street, Mba/Cardoso Street, Baale Road (Secretariat), Cemetery Street, Ojora Street, Baale Aiyetoro Street, Olowojeunjeje Street, Oduduwa Street, Layinka Street, Cemetery Road, Bakare Faro Street, Adejiyan Street, Ishaga Street, Onishapa Street, Itire Street, Ojo Road and terminate at Signal Barracks, the race’s finish point.
All junctions and intersections along the stretch from Maracana Stadium to Signal Barracks on Ojo Road will be partially closed and managed by operatives of LASTMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
These access points will, however, be opened intermittently to allow controlled traffic flow as conditions permit.
To minimise delays, motorists have been advised to consider the following routes:
From Berger/Apapa-Oshodi Expressway to Olodi Apapa via Kirikiri: Turn right into Industrial Road, connect Idewu Street, proceed through Oluwa Street, link Tolu Road, and rejoin Baale Road.
From Suru-Alaba (Lagos-Badagry Expressway) heading to Gaskiya and Iganmu Roads: A contraflow will be created along Cemetery Road from the Technoil turnoff to the roundabout.
From Suru-Alaba heading towards Ojo Road: Turn left before Signal Barracks into Charles Avenue, link Ligali Street, continue through Evie Street, join Abeje Street, and re-enter Ojo Road.
The government assured residents and commuters that disruptions will be minimal and that traffic officers will be strategically deployed to aid movement throughout the event.
Road users are urged to remain patient, follow designated diversion signs, and cooperate with traffic managers to ensure a safe and hitch-free marathon.
