Lagos local government elections: Police impose complete ban on vehicle movement and prohibit motorcades.

In preparation for the upcoming local government election in Lagos State, the police announced on Wednesday that there will be a complete ban on all vehicle movement from 3 am to 3 pm on Saturday, July 12. According to a statement from police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, this restriction will affect all roads and waterways throughout the state. Additionally, the police have banned armed escorts and security personnel from polling units and collation centers. The use of sirens and obscured license plates is also forbidden. “Police escorts and armed security personnel are not permitted to accompany their principals to the polling units or collation centers.” This regulation aims to avoid any inappropriate pressure or intimidation during the election. “Using sirens near polling stations and collation centers is not allowed.” Additionally, the announcement stated that only vehicles assigned to essential services, like ambulances, are permitted. However, the command specified that accredited observers and media personnel covering the elections, as approved by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), are not subject to the vehicle restrictions.
