​L’AMCOW à Dakar: a historic session for the future of water in Africa 

  The opening of the 14th ordinary session of the General Assembly of the Council of African Ministers responsible for Water (AMCOW) took place on Monday in Dakar, marking a decisive turning point for the management of water and sanitation on the continent. The meeting was chaired by the Senegalese Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, and aimed to lay the foundations for a new strategy for Africa after 2025, in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063. During his speech, Mr. He stressed the importance of transforming water resources into a lever of resilience, prosperity and dignity for all. He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between nations, to mobilise more financial resources and to promote technological innovation. The objective is to consolidate a “hydrodiplomatie” which will serve as a pillar for peace, solidarity and development. For his part, the Executive Secretary of the AMCOW, Rashid Mbaziira, recalled the progress made over the past 25 years, while highlighting the challenges that remain. He called for immediate action to guarantee a resilient, secure and inclusive Africa.
