Langaville teen Matlhatsi Matshele (16) seeks community support to raise funds for a life-changing international netball tour to France this October.

Langaville – Matlhatsi Matshele (16) needs community help to embark on a journey of a lifetime. Matlhatsi is one of 3 000 participants selected from schools around SA to participate in Southern Cape Sports Tour’s international tour to the historical and culturally rich cities of Paris, Arras and Orléans in France.

“I started playing netball in 2021 while doing Grade Seven. I love netball because I am happiest when playing it. It’s my safe space, and I find peace in it. It builds me as a person each day. It is a place where I feel free, and it has become my therapy,” she explains.

Matlhatsi says she rotates between goal attack, goal shooter and wing attack on the court. She said attending the 10-day tour would mean the world to her.

“Most importantly, it would mean the first few steps of achieving my goals. It would help my personal growth, and I would learn new skills in the sport.

“I hope to gain personal growth like confidence, independence and friendships, sports development like new skills, competition experience and exposure, life skills like teamwork, discipline and resilience, and career opportunities like scholarships,” she said.

The teen needs to raise upwards of R50 000 to participate. This amount would cover accommodation for 10 days, daily meals, excursions and sightseeing activities, flights, transport throughout the tour and a match kit, sweater and backpack.

The Langaville Supernova Sports Club player believes selection for this tour is a testament to her talent, dedication and hard work.

The tour takes place in October.
