
A Professor of Transport Planning and Policy at Lagos State University, LASU, Samuel Gbadebo Odewumi, has been named Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo.
The appointment was formally communicated in a letter dated December 15, 2025, and signed by the institution’s Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, Mrs Blossom Okorie.
According to the letter, the appointment followed the approval of the Visitor to the University, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as relayed by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa.
The decision was conveyed on behalf of the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council.
Professor Odewumi’s appointment takes immediate effect and will remain valid until the process of appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor is concluded.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, congratulated Odewumi on his elevation, describing it as well deserved.
She said the appointment reflects his impressive academic track record, strong administrative capacity, and notable contributions to scholarships in the field of transport planning and policy.
Olatunji-Bello expressed optimism that Odewumi’s extensive experience would play a vital role in promoting stability, institutional growth, and overall development at the University of Uyo.
