Garba Lawal, a former Nigerian international, has encouraged Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi to seize any opportunities that arise from Spain without hesitation. The Nigerian player is rumored to be leaving FC Porto this summer after experiencing injury issues last season. Although he has a contract with the Portuguese side until 2027, his role has become more uncertain due to a lengthy injury layoff and reduced chances to play since his recovery. He has appeared in only a handful of matches during the latter half of the 2024/25 season, leading to worries about his future with the team. In an interview with Footy-Africa, Lawal praised the Super Eagles player as an excellent defender and encouraged him to depart from his current team for a move to a Spanish club. “Zaidu has faced a lot of injuries, which have been tough for him, even though they are a common aspect of the sport,” Lawal mentioned to Footy-Africa. “I’ve heard that Porto is planning to sell him, and I believe it’s time for him to transition as well. He is an excellent defender capable of playing as a wing-back, so finding a new club shouldn’t be difficult for him.” However, if Porto decides to sell him, he will be able to transfer. “I truly hope he can remain in Portugal since that’s where he has spent most of his career and he is fluent in the language, which would make things simpler for him. Nonetheless, Spain and La Liga present a great opportunity as well, provided the club can finalize the arrangement.” Competing in Spain would be an excellent opportunity, as it shares similarities with Portugal. I wish he would take action and begin playing once more.
