On 22 September 2025, during the 80th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, the President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, delivered a landmark speech on the occasion of the high-level meeting commemorating the 30th anniversary of the World Conference on Women (Beijing+30). In his speech, he strongly reaffirmed Senegal’s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, stressing that these issues are essential for the sustainable development of any society. The Head of State has also put forward the “Vision Senegal 2050”, a national strategic plan that places women and young people at the heart of development. He described them as “pillars of social stability and engines of lasting prosperity”. At the end of his speech, he launched an appeal for collective action: “Let us prepare future generations to live in a more just, more equal and more harmonious world. “These words resonate as a firm commitment, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 5 on gender equality. This intervention promptly aroused positive reactions in Senegal, notably within the PASTEF party (African Patriots of Senegal for Labour, Ethics and Fraternity).
