The Senegalese maritime sector has just reached a historic milestone with the completion of the National Laboratory for the Analysis of Fishery Products, located in Diamniadio. This centre, the first of its kind in Senegal, is called upon to play a strategic role in ensuring the quality of sea products and their conformity with international standards. Thanks to modern equipment and cutting-edge expertise, the laboratory will allow rigorous scientific analyses, sampling tests and in-depth controls throughout the value chain. In a Facebook post, the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Dr Fatou Diouf, hailed “the technical partnership of Japan, whose support has been decisive in the realization of this project, as well as the commitment of all the teams who have worked on its execution in record time”. Started in May 2024, the construction was delivered in September 2025. Commissioning is planned for the beginning of next year. According to the Minister, this laboratory will be positioned as “a transformation lever to accompany fishermen, industrialists and all the actors of the sector towards a better valorisation and an increased recognition of our products on international markets”.
