The President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, received the “Presidential Global Water Changemakers Award 2025” in Cape Town, in recognition of his role in the co-organisation of the United Nations Conference on Water 2026 and his commitment to global water diplomacy focused on strategic investment and international solidarity. The ceremony was held during the African Union’s Summit on Investment in Water, under the South African presidency of the G20. Senegal, represented by the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Dr Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, presented the Grand Projet de Transfert de l’Eau and the Senegalese model of public-private partnership, hailed as an international example. This distinction underlines Senegal’s position as a key player in the global water agenda, promoting inclusive governance, the mobilization of financing and international cooperation for a sustainable future.
