At just 19, Rorisang Phalane is making waves as an amapiano DJ, fashion model, and content creator, with big dreams for the future and a growing presence in South Africa’s creative scene.
Duduza – Rorisang Phalane (19) is an amapiano DJ, fashion model, and a content creator who has big plans for the future.
Phalane started taking his craft as a DJ seriously in 2021, saying he discovered his love for music during lockdown.
“I was very scared and skeptical of my work. I watched a lot of YouTube video’s just to try and perfect my skills. In 2021, I dropped a few mixtapes.
“I dropped Hibernation Hour first and it is a private school piano mixtape. My mix showed my audience my capabilities. It enabled me to express myself and my sound,” he said.
He added that in 2023 he became a regular DJ at a local radio station, and started getting gigs. Phalane elaborated to say that he looks up to Mfundo De DJ and has received numerous support, guidance and tips from him regarding his craft.
Apart from being a DJ, Phalane is also a content creator whose first gig was at Makubenjalo in Soweto where he created his first actual paying content for Mfundo De DJ.
“I would say that gig gave me recognition and the exposure I needed. People started approaching me. I received messages regarding my work and it motivated me,” he added.
He is also a member of the Art Catalog which is an art platform established to identify creative individuals and groups and gives them the exposure they need through digital platforms. This platform targets individuals residing in the township where there are minimal resources.
“The platform represents people that are not heard nor seen in the township. We have worked with a lot of local brands and individuals.
“This platform was established by Minenhle Mkhwanazi and it has been growing since day one,” he mentioned.
He recently also founded his own studio called Major Studios which focuses on capturing artist videos, studio pictures and other art forms.
“I want to see my venture grow and advance into something big. My skills will keep sharpening as I grow too,” he concluded.
