Lukaku: I Did Not Desire to Move to Man United in 2017.

Napoli forward Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he never intended to sign with Manchester United in 2017, despite interest from Chelsea under Antonio Conte. The Belgian striker moved to Jose Mourinho’s Man United from Everton for approximately £75 million during the summer of 2017. Previously, Lukaku had a loan spell at Chelsea in the 2013-14 season, where he netted 13 goals in the Premier League. He made a permanent transfer from Chelsea at the conclusion of the season and had three additional fruitful years with the team. In an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Lukaku revealed that he wasn’t keen on joining the club and instead desired to go back to Chelsea. He mentioned, “I had already informed everyone: I’m heading to Chelsea.” Out of the blue, Mourinho reached out to let me know that Manchester United had presented an offer. “I returned from my vacation to find that there was suddenly a deal with Everton.” I told Mino (Raiola, after the transfer) that I didn’t want this, and then I resolved to manage everything on my own. Lukaku was arguably among the top forwards in the league during his two years at Old Trafford, netting 42 goals in 96 matches across all competitions.
