Lyon’s manager, Paulo Fonseca, has received a significant nine-month suspension after confronting referee Benoit Millot during Lyon’s recent 2-1 victory against Brest. The French Professional Football League announced that the Portuguese coach will be prohibited from being on the sidelines until November 30. However, he will have access to the team’s dressing room on matchdays beginning September 15. Fonseca has taken responsibility for his behavior and apologized to referee Millot right after the match, but this hasn’t stopped a significant penalty from being imposed. Nonetheless, the seven-time champions of France, who presently sit in sixth place in Ligue 1, expressed their dissatisfaction that Fonseca was assessed based solely on his actions during an emotional moment, without any evident intention to harm the referee. They are currently exploring all potential options for an appeal.
