Macky Sall charged the new regime: ” The Senegalese are disappointed ”

On the occasion of the installation of the National Executive Secretariat of the Alliance for the Republic (APR), on Thursday 6 November 2025, former President Macky Sall criticized the regime in place. In a speech delivered by Mr Sidiki Kaba, the founder of the APR, he affirms that “the Senegalese people are disappointed” with the new government, which he accuses of infringing on democratic freedoms and the gains won “by a great struggle” by the people. “We are living in a new time dominated by the advent of a new type of power never experienced in Senegal beyond its addiction to destructive violence and its appetite for denying the values of the rule of law and the principles of the Republic. The new power has disappointed the majority of our compatriots”, denounced the former head of state. Macky Sall believes that the current authorities “attack on democratic and basic freedoms” and “trample on the gains” made over the decades. In his eyes, “the Republic is hiding” and the Senegalese democratic model, once “admired in the world”, is fading under the leadership of “tenants of a party-state”. The leader of the APR observes, with “effarement” and “affliction”, a multiplication of “dérapages” and “dérives en tout genre du nouveau régime”… Finally, he warns that the legacy he says he has left the country cannot be called into question by “amateurism” or “a revengeful hatred” leading, according to him, to a “paralysis” and a “regression in all fields”.
