Public commentator Mahdi Shehu has criticised Nigerian voters, saying many of them make political decisions based on the emotions of the present rather than lessons from the past.
Shehu made the remark on Sunday in a post shared on X, where he reacted to an old video of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu speaking on governance and accountability.
In the video, Tinubu reportedly said Nigerians should not vote for him for a second term if he fails to deliver steady electricity within four years in office.
Reacting to the statement, Shehu said many Nigerians tend to forget past experiences when making electoral choices.
“Some Nigerians will still go ahead to vote for him because most Nigerians are prisoners of ‘the moment’ and never prisoners of history, even if they will be prisoners tomorrow,” he wrote.
