Political commentator, Mahdi Shehu has raised concerns about the intentions of the United States during its recent engagement in Nigeria.
His comments challenged U.S. foreign policy and what he claimed was a one-sided approach to security discussions in the country.
In a post on X, Shehu argued that the U.S. has a long record of violence across different regions.
He stated that, “endless examples have been given covering the world stage where America has been responsible for the wanton killings of innocent Christians over the last 100 years.”
He added that the same pattern applies to Muslim-majority countries, saying “from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia, etc, America has been notorious for the killing of innocent Muslims.”
He further claimed the current American delegation in Nigeria is engaging selectively with certain groups.
According to him, “the mission of American delegates currently in Nigeria is not to verify that Muslims have been more on the receiving end of terror attacks and death… but to selectively engage the Christian community and pressure groups so as to write their report from one-sided narrative.”
Shehu also alleged that the U.S. is pushing for major legal and religious changes in northern Nigeria.
He said Washington’s supposed desire to remove Sharia provisions from state laws is, in his view, “a clear confirmation that America and its local and foreign instigators are only hiding behind ‘Fulani terrorist, Fulani kidnappers, ISWAP, Boko Haram.”
He added, “but the motive is to intimidate Muslims, blackmail, kill, maim, dispossess, and make them refugees so that they can feast on the vast mineral deposits lying buried all over the North.”
