The head coach of Wikki Tourists, Abdul Maikaba, has spoken to Completesports. The early goal by Lati Yusuf of Warri Wolves during Saturday’s final of the 2024/2025 NNL Super 8 playoffs disrupted Wikki’s players and threw off their strategy, leading to a 3-2 loss at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba. This defeat also broke Wikki’s solid defensive record. Wikki Tourists had maintained a clean slate in their last three playoff matches, but unexpectedly fell behind 202-0 within the first 26 minutes of the high-stakes final against the well-performing Seasiders. The ‘Giant Elephants’ launched a determined comeback, managing to score just before halftime, and Wonderson Yakubu scored again 14 minutes into the second half. Nonetheless, Warri Wolves stood their ground, using a strong defense to maintain their 3-2 lead until the match ended. “We Were Unprepared” — Maikaba. Coach Maikaba acknowledged that his team started strong but were taken aback by Wolves’ quick goal. “I believe we were taken by surprise,” Maikaba stated. “We were dominating the match prior to their goal, which was rather unexpected.” Also see: FIFA CWC Final: Major Teams Chelsea and PSG Compete for Worldwide Honor.
