A former Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure, Bisi Ilaka, has formally resigned from the party.
In a resignation letter dated Tuesday, February 10, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday, Ilaka thanked the PDP for giving him the opportunity to serve in various capacities at both the state and national levels.
Governor Makinde appointed Ilaka as his pioneer Chief of Staff on May 29, 2019, shortly after assuming office.
Ilaka held the position until 2021, when Segun Ogunwuyi took over the role and was later reappointed following the 2023 general elections.
In his letter, titled “The Chairman, Ward 5, Oyi East LG: Re: Resignation of Party Membership,” Ilaka stated:
“It is with utmost humility that I tender my resignation of membership from the PDP.”
“I am eternally grateful for the opportunities afforded to me by the party and the unalloyed support given to me over the years. Till we meet again.”
His exit comes months after another prominent PDP member in Oyo State, former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Agboola Ayoola, popularly known as Alleluyah, also left the party in October 2025, bringing an end to his longstanding affiliation with the PDP.
Ayoola, from Itesiwaju Local Government Area, previously served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under former governors Rashidi Ladoja and the late Adebayo Alao-Akala between 2003 and 2011.
He also made history as the only PDP senator elected from the South-West between 2011 and 2015.
