The Malian government confiscated three tons of gold from the Canadian mining company Barrick to recover $180 million in unpaid revenues. The gold comes from a mine situated near Kayes, a strategic region for gold mining. Already in December 2024, Bamako had issued an arrest warrant against the CEO of Barrick for money laundering charges.
