Senegal has lost one of its most brilliant and committed lawyers. Sheikh Khoureychi Ba, an emblematic figure of the Barreau, passed away on 26 March 2025 in Istanbul, Turkey, following an illness. His death plunged the judiciary world into a deep sadness, as he marked his era by his eloquence, his integrity and his unwavering commitment to justice and fundamental freedoms. Over the years, Me Ba had established herself as a strong and respected voice, embodying the values of independence, rigour and probity which found the legal profession. His exceptional career has been marked by high-profile battles, notably as the defender of the political leader Ousmane Sonko. Through these cases with a strong symbolic scope, he affirmed himself as an advocate of principles, always on the side of law and truth. On 29 March 2025, his colleagues, relatives and admirers paid him a final tribute during the levée of the body at the Principal Hospital of Dakar, followed by his inhumation at the cemetery of Yoff.
