Media: seven frequencies of Walf FM cut by the TDS

It is a new arm of iron in the Senegalese media landscape. Without prior notice, the Télédiffusion du Sénégal (TDS) has interrupted the signals of Walf FM in seven regions of the country: Saint-Louis, Louga, Fatick, Kaffrine, Sédhiou, Kolda and Kédougou. A gesture that the CEO of the Walfadjri group, Cheikh Niass, qualifies as maladroit and contrary to customs. “The least of these things is to advise before you cut”, he lamented in the columns of the Wall Street Journal. According to the information reported, this cut would be linked to unpaid invoices. The Walf management effectively recognises the arrears ” in violation of the clauses of the co-location contract binding TDS-SA to Walf “. But it immediately recalls the context: a catastrophic financial situation for the media sector, aggravated by the State’s withholding of funds to support the press.
