METE à la manœuvre: total vigilance and immediate response to a gas leak

Following the gas leak that occurred between 19 and 20 February 2025 on well A02 of the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim gas field, operated by BP approximately 120 km offshore, METE expressed its views after several days of monitoring. The Senegalese and Mauritanian authorities, in close collaboration with the operator, confirmed that no victims were to be deplored and that no major environmental impact had been observed. Emergency measures have made it possible to isolate the wells and contain the leak, while a reinforced surveillance (helicopters, drones, ROV and satellites) is maintained. In addition, a thorough technical audit is under way to determine the causes of the incident and to verify compliance with safety standards. The governments reaffirm their commitment to transparency and environmental security, stressing the challenges associated with offshore gas exploitation.
