The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has formally approved the 2026 Appropriation Bill, passing it into law on Tuesday.
During the legislative process, lawmakers reviewed the proposal submitted by Governor Abdullahi Sule and raised the budget by N27.6 billion above the initial N517.5 billion estimate, increasing the total fiscal plan to N545.2 billion.
The Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, announced the passage during plenary in Lafia, the state capital.
It would be recalled that Governor Sule presented the 2026 financial proposal tagged the “Budget of Strategic Consolidation” to the Assembly on November 26, 2025, seeking legislative approval.
According to the Speaker, once the Governor gives assent, the budget will provide the framework for executing people-focused programmes and projects aimed at advancing the state’s overall development.
Jatau commended members of the House Standing Committees for their diligence and contributions throughout the budget review process.
He further revealed that the N27.6 billion increase was introduced to reflect prevailing economic realities, particularly rising inflation.
“In the upward review, security votes and services in the office of the Secretary to the State Government and Ministry of Special Duties, Security and Sundry Matters received additional N14 billion, while the Ministry of Local Government got additional N7 billion.
“Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism received a boost of N3.7billion and the construction of 55km Lafia-Kwandere-Garaku road, among others,” the Speaker explained.
He subsequently instructed the Clerk of the House to prepare and transmit a clean copy of the bill to Governor Sule for assent.
The Speaker also appealed to the executive arm of government to ensure strict and full implementation of the budget once it becomes law.
Earlier in the session, the Majority Leader, Suleiman Yakubu Azara, presented the motion seeking the passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The motion was seconded by the Minority Leader, Luka Iliya Zhekaba, after which the House unanimously approved the bill.
