National Police Day: IGP Disu reaffirms commitment to professionalism, security 

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police towards ensuring professionalism and national security as the force marks the grand finale of the 2026 National Police Day held at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

A press statement issued through the office of the Force Relations Officer Headquarters Abuja, Anthony Placid Okon, informed that the event featured a ceremonial parade involving officers of the Force alongside other security and paramilitary agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps ,NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Corps ,FRSC, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

According to Okon, the Inspector General of Police, described the day as a moment to honour fallen heroes and reinforce the values of discipline, professionalism and service to the nation.

IGP Disu, emphasized the need for more accountable, intelligent driven and community focused policing, assuring Nigerians of the police’ continued efforts in strengthening public trust and improve policing standards nationwide.

In his remarks, the Vice President, who was in attendance commended the Nigeria Police Force for its dedication and resilience, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening police reforms, operational capacity, and personnel welfare in line with national security priorities.

Activities marking the celebration according to the Force spokesperson, featured a nationwide walkathon, Community Service initiatives, medical outreach programmes, public sensitization campaigns, and the presentation of welfare cheques to families of fallen officers.

“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to professionalism, service excellence, and the protection of lives and property, as it continues to reposition itself to effectively meet the security aspirations of the nation.”the release stated.
