
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two women over an alleged attempt to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron Dutse, Kano.
The arrest occurred on December 21, 2025, during routine security screening at the facility, when officers intercepted the suspects while attempting to gain access to the custodial centre.
The suspects, identified as Maryam Ali and Hauwa Musa, both aged between 19 and 20 years and residents of Kano State, were reportedly found in possession of suspected illicit substances believed to have been intended for inmates.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Musbahu Lawan Knassarawa, described the act as a serious offence.
āThe suspects were intercepted during routine security checks while attempting to gain entry into the custodial centre with suspected illicit substances,ā Knassarawa said.
He added that such actions violate both correctional regulations and Nigerian law.
āThis act constitutes a serious violation of the Nigerian Correctional Service regulations and is a criminal offence under the relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,ā he stated.
According to him, the suspects have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
āThe suspects have been transferred to the NDLEA for thorough investigation and appropriate legal action,ā the statement said.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict security within custodial facilities.
āThe Nigerian Correctional Service remains committed to strict security, discipline, and zero tolerance for illegal activities within and around custodial centres,ā Knassarawa stressed.
He also warned members of the public to adhere strictly to visitation guidelines.
āMembers of the public are urged to comply with all visitation rules, as any violation will be dealt with in accordance with the law,ā he warned.
