The 16th of January 2005 marked the disappearance of Ndongo Lo Niang, an emblematic figure of the Senegalese music. Born on 15 January 1975, he would have celebrated his 50th birthday in 2025. Alas, he did not live that 30 years on earth. Known for his unique voice and his revolutionary interpretation of emotions, he touched hearts well beyond the borders of his native suburb, Pikine, in Dakar. Twenty years later, his artistic legacy remains intact, and his songs continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of numerous generations. His unique voice and profound texts, often inspired by Senegalese social realities and traditions, have made him an inescapable icon. His musical style, at the crossroads of modernity and cultural heritage, marked the golden age of Senegalese music in the 1990s and 2000s. Despite his premature departure, the work of Ndongo Lo remains timeless.
