Installed in Belgium since 1990, Roger Lukaku has defended the colours of several clubs in the country, including Boom, Seraing and Germinal Ekeren. He had also attempted an adventure in Turkey before returning to Belgium, where he played notably for Malines et Ostende. The end of his career had taken place in the lower divisions.. In the Belgian first division, he scored 47 goals in 135 official matches. Before his passage in Europe, he had played at Daring Club Motema Pembe de Kinshasa and at Africa Sports d’Abidjan. With the selection of the DR Congo, he had been called up 11 times, participating notably at the 1996 African Cup of Nations in South Africa, where he had distinguished himself by scoring against Liberia (2-0).. In recent years, his name had resurfaced in the media, largely thanks to the careers of his sons at the top level, even if family ties had sometimes been marked by tensions.
