The city of Ziguinchor, and the whole of Senegal, is in mourning following the announcement of the death of the eminent architect Cheikh Ngom. A native of the region, he left behind him a monumental work that deeply marked the architectural and spiritual landscape of the country. Cheikh Ngom was renowned for having designed several major buildings. Among his most notable achievements are the architecture of the Grande Mosquée de Tivaouane, the Grande Mosquée de Ziguinchor, and the famous Tour de la BCEAO à Dakar (conceived in collaboration with Pierre Goudiaby Atepa). These buildings testify to his genius and his ability to blend modernity and tradition in the Senegalese concrete and steel. He is also the architect of the Mosque de la Divinité in Ouakam, Dakar. Un hommage already rendered.
