Newcastle is in negotiations to acquire a former player from Arsenal.

Talks are underway between Newcastle and Southampton regarding the potential transfer of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, according to talkSPORT. The 27-year-old is likely to leave St Mary’s just a year after moving from Arsenal, following Southampton’s relegation to the Championship. This marks Ramsdale’s third experience of dropping to England’s second-tier, having previously faced relegation with Bournemouth and Sheffield United. Newcastle is prepared to give the England international, who has five caps, an opportunity to play in the Premier League again. Ramsdale appears interested in joining Newcastle at St James’ Park. Additionally, in a positive note for Newcastle fans, Ramsdale opted against a transfer to their rivals, Sunderland, earlier in the window. The Magpies are pursuing Ramsdale after missing out on James Trafford, who was Eddie Howe’s primary target to compete with current first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope. Trafford has decided to return to Manchester City in a £27 million deal, having previously been sold for £15 million two years ago. Newcastle is considering either a permanent transfer or a loan deal for Ramsdale.
