The Federal Government and state security administrations have embarked on a two-day strategic meeting aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s security architecture and securing the lives of citizens.
The security meeting, which is a collaboration between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Abia State Government, is being held in Umuahia between Thursday and Friday.
Speaking at the meeting, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, said the meeting was the first of its kind to be held in the South-East.
Akume, who was represented by the head of the Federal and State Security Administrations’ meeting, Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, said that the South-East is recovering from insecurity and returning to its original state of entrepreneurship.
He said the meeting is discussing the menace of false information on national security, especially fake news being spread against the Federal and State Governments.
The SGF said that the Federal Government is taking steps to conduct peaceful elections and protect voters from harm, in collaboration with critical stakeholders, and urged Nigerian citizens to provide information to security agencies.
“To curb the activities of hoodlums who may want to disrupt elections or intimidate voters, perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted,” the SGF said.
Declaring the security meeting open, the Abia State Governor said that the Federal and State Governments have a shared responsibility to secure the nation and protect citizens.
He said that the meeting offered participants the opportunity to reflect and share ideas about strategies to adopt in enhancing national security.
Otti assured that his administration will continue to support security agencies in the state in securing the lives and property of citizens and boosting the state’s economy.
