Nigerian House Committee Praises Tinubu’s Increased Sports Budget

The House Committee on Sports Chairman in the Nigerian House of Representatives, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for significantly increasing the 2025 sports budget. The allocation has grown from ₦29 billion in 2024 to over ₦94 billion, representing a remarkable 227% increase, according to reports from Completesports.com.

Speaking during the budget defense session of the National Sports Commission, Amadu lauded President Tinubu’s dedication to sports and youth development. He emphasized that the budget hike reflects the President’s passion for improving Nigeria’s sports sector. “The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has tripled the sports budget from ₦29,082,369,979 in 2024 to ₦94,947,006,325 in 2025. This represents a 227% increase. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is hereby commended for this remarkable stride in the budgetary allocation to the sports sector,” Amadu stated.

Amadu expressed optimism that the increased funding would address critical challenges in the sports industry, such as deteriorating infrastructure, insufficient funding for over 40 sports federations, and the need for sustainable development plans and better manpower training. He believes these improvements will enhance Nigeria’s sports performance on a global stage.

“We hope and believe this budgetary increment will address the long-standing issues of deteriorating sports infrastructure nationwide, particularly national stadiums, lack of funds for over forty federations, absence of sustainable development plans, and the shortage of requisite manpower and training needed for Nigeria to excel in sports,” he said.

The Chairman also pledged the House Committee’s support for key stakeholders in sports, including the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the National Sports Institute. He assured them of backing from the National Assembly to ensure the timely release of funds by the federal government.

“The House Committee on Sports assures the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the National Sports Institute of unwavering support to facilitate easy access to funds from the federal government. This will ultimately drive sports development, particularly at the grassroots level,” Amadu concluded.
