The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda has stopped a boat carrying approximately 100,000 litres of stolen crude oil at the Idiogba-Mahin coastline in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. The base’s Commanding Officer, Capt. Aliyu Usman shared this information with reporters on Thursday during a site assessment visit. He stated that the Naval team acted on reliable intelligence and dispatched its Quick Response Team. Usman mentioned that the team confiscated a wooden boat laden with stolen crude oil and equipment used for bunkering, including discharge hoses and pumping machines. He further noted that the criminals escaped upon seeing the response team. “During this operation, the team intercepted a large wooden boat carrying about 100,000 liters of stolen crude oil, along with related equipment such as discharge hoses and pumping machines. The criminals fled upon noticing the Naval team, but the seized boat was secured afterward. A sample of the crude oil was taken for laboratory testing, and the boat and its contents were handled according to existing protocols,” Usman said.
