Several traders and angry residents, on Wednesday, trooped out to block the Onitsha Head Bridge, in protest against Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s shutdown of the state’s main market.
In a video making the rounds on X, released by a media analyst, Somto Okonkwo, on Wednesday, the traders were seen protesting at the bridge, which serves as a major entry and exit point into Anambra State.
Recall that on Tuesday traders’ protests broke out in Onitsha main market after security operatives denied them entry into the market on the orders of Governor Soludo.
The situation led to chaos as security operatives reportedly fired shots to ensure calm.
The governor had earlier threatened to shut down Onitsha main market over continuous observance of Monday sit-at-home in honor of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently serving a life sentence in a Sokoto prison.
