No evidence they have repented – Jake Epelle on planned release of bandits

A public affairs analyst, Jack Ekpelle, has said there is no evidence that the ‘repented’ bandits set to be released by the Katsina state government have genuinely repented.

Ekpelle stated this on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.

He said there was nothing wrong with extending mercy and grace to people when they do something wrong but there is everything wrong with not understanding the interpretation of their actions.

He said: It’s important to underpin the legal framework of these individuals that are either going to be released or about to be released.

“We’re not talking about minor crime, but about terrorism, which is an international issue. My call on the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Defense is that we need to begin to think towards a policy for this kind of exercise.

“Now, it’s one state or two of them trying to do the same thing and other states will follow because one leaders set examples, other leaders follow that example.

“What is the guarantee that these people have been totally de-radicalized? What is the guarantee that they are not going to cause menace in the society when released?”
