‘Not the way to go’ – Shehu Sani condemns attacks on INEC chair

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has condemned threats and attacks on Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Joash Amupitan.

In a statement posted on his verified X handle on Friday, Sani said that is not the right way to go.

DAILY POST reports that ahead of the 2027 general election, the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, had asked President Bola Tinubu to immediately remove Amupitan as INEC boss.

Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Northern States has advised Shari’ah Council to openly identify any individual or group behind the campaign against the INEC chairman, insisting that religious platforms must not be used as “cheap cover” to pursue political interests or intimidate public officials.

Sani wrote: “Threats, mistrusts and casting aspersions on the INEC chairman is unconscionable and not the way to go.

“What is most important is that the Head of the electoral body should be tasked, monitored and supported to conduct credible and transparent elections for the sustenance of our democracy.”
