NPFL: Akwa United’s coach Akpan expresses disappointment over the team’s drop in the league.

Bassey Akpan, a former Nigeria youth international goalkeeper, expressed his disappointment regarding Akwa United’s relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Currently a goalkeeper trainer for Akwa United, he noted that the team finished in 18th place, leading to their drop to the Nigeria National League (NNL). Bassey mentioned that despite their hard work to stay in the league, it wasn’t sufficient. “It’s like having a bone lodged in your throat, making it hard to swallow,” he told Complete Sports. He added, “This is my second year in coaching, and watching Akwa United be relegated is the most painful moment of my career. It’s tough to come to terms with this.” I haven’t been able to sleep at my home since that time, as sleep has been out of reach for me. I will be coming back home this Wednesday. It hurts. We put forth our utmost effort. However, that didn’t happen. It hurts a lot.
