John Obuh, the Executive Chairman of the Abia Warriors Management Board, has disclosed some exclusive information to Completesports. The main elements contributing to the club’s remarkable performance in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) include their current position, standing fifth in the rankings after 373 matches, which marks their highest achievement at this point in a Nigerian top-tier season. John Obuh is involved in this success. Obuh expressed to Completesports that reflecting on their 2023/2024 season, where they achieved a second-place finish in the President Federation Cup, ignites a strong desire and enthusiasm to push beyond that and achieve even greater success. In a unique interview, Abdallah discusses his rejection of an early recall, emphasizing his desire to finish his suspension with Kano Pillars. “Naturally, you must think about our coaching staff, the caliber of players we’ve brought on board, the expertise of our management team, our dedicated and supportive fans, and the financial support and encouragement from our Governor, Dr. Alex Otti — it’s what you would anticipate. When you merge these elements with the teamwork among the players, coaches, fans, government, and management, it becomes clear why we’ve reached our current position. Obuh hands the Abia Warriors jersey to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.” Fundamentally, the players are slowly grasping the coaches’ philosophies, and the entire team is aligned with the management. Our goal is not just to equal last season’s performance, but to exceed it. The 64-year-old enjoyed a distinguished coaching career with tenures at Niger Tornadoes, Kwara United, Sharks, and Rangers. He also led Nigeria’s U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, to a silver medal at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria. Subsequently, Obuh was elevated to coach the U-20 Flying Eagles, taking them to the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia, where they advanced to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by France.
