The Arise and Shine NPO donated 40 hand-crafted school shirts to Sakhelwe and Masimini primary schools on March 27, helping to provide students with the uniforms they need to boost their confidence and reduce bullying.

Kwa-Thema – The Arise and Shine NPO donated 40 school shirts to Sakhelwe and Masimini primary schools on March 27.

Twenty learners from each school received a shirt. The organisation’s members and students hand-crafted the shirts to give back to the community.

The NPO’s founder, Mapule Mashifane, said they saw many schoolchildren going to school without proper uniforms.

“We offer sewing classes to the community, and the money people pay to partake in those classes goes to buying material for this project.

“There are many differences at primary schools. Children go to school without proper shoes, uniforms and other school necessities, which sometimes causes bullying and low self-esteem. Our mission is to correct those differences with the little we have to offer,” said Mashifane.

Mashifane said her goal is to find ways to help learners with uniforms when possible.

The donations are accepted at Sakhelwe Primary School.

“We only need sponsorship from local individuals, business owners or companies. We plead with Kwatsaduza community members to help us where possible. Our organisation needs sewing machines, materials and other basics.

“For as long as I can help, I shall do so. Beyond everything, I am grateful that this initiative went as planned. Giving back to local schools has always been my biggest desire,” she added.

Sakhelwe Primary School teacher Asme Siwisa said the school was grateful for the helping hand because many of their children come from underprivileged backgrounds.

“We thank the NPO for recognising our school as a deserving school from their helping hand. The shirts will make a huge difference in each learner’s life,” she said.

Masimini Primary School deputy principal Galeboe Monamodi was grateful to the NPO and encouraged its members, “May you never grow tired of helping those in need. Please carry this initiative to other deserving schools.

“We are beyond thankful for the shirts. They will have a lasting impact on the learners’ lives,” he said.

The Arise and Shine NPO is open to the community for sewing classes. For enquiries, call Mashifane on 073 061 5464.
