A destructive fire broke out in the first hours of Saturday, February 8, 2025, in Gyinyase, Kumasi, claiming the lives of a caregiver Linda Agyemang and her three children. The blaze, which started around 3: 30 a. m. in their three-bedroom house, trapped the household outside, and despite desperate efforts by neighbors to save them, the flames had already engulfed the home.
Witnesses recalled the frightful field. Co-tenant Owusu George tried to help, recounting,” My woman woke me up around 3: 30 a. m. to tell me about the fire. I arrived on the scene as I audibly heard the kids yelling for assistance. I overheard a loud explosion coming from the house as I attempted to unlock the door. I suspect it may have been a oil barrel. Another man joined me in trying to break the glass to save the children, but we don’t”.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service ( GNFS ) arrived about 10 minutes after receiving the distress call at 4: 30 a. m. However, by then, the fire had already consumed the victims. The body of Linda and her children, who had been found in the bath, have been transported to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for protection.
The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Fire Service, Complete II Peter Addai, has confirmed the incident and has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. He stated that the reason is still under investigation.
