Ogun govt seals filling station over environment violations

The Ogun State Ministry of Environment Task Force has sealed a filling station located at Moore Junction, Asero, for violating the state’s environmental laws.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Tolu Poviwhede, led the task force on Wednesday.

According to him, the filling station was found to be in breach of basic environmental and public health regulations, including failure to provide a toilet facility, a requirement for public service premises under the state’s environmental laws.

Poviwhede noted that the state would no longer tolerate actions that pose risks to public health and environmental safety, adding that filling stations, due to their interaction with large numbers of motorists and residents, must strictly comply with all environmental standards.

“No business is allowed to operate in Ogun State in violation of environmental laws. The absence of basic facilities like toilets is unacceptable, and we will continue to seal any facility found in breach of this,” Poviwhede added.

He explained that the station was subsequently sealed and issued with appropriate notices pending compliance with laid-down regulations, warning that similar enforcement actions would continue across the state to ensure adherence to environmental laws.
