Okoronkwo, Ogbodo beat opponents as Abia boxing championship endsĀ 

Zoe Chibuike Okoronkwo defended his Feather Weight title by defeating his challenger, Nwambeke Ndubuisi by Technical knockout in the just concluded Abia State Boxing Championship, ā€œEnyimba 2025.ā€

Israel Obinna Ogbodo also beat Udeh Chibuike, while Chinaza Ikechukwu Okoronkwo defended his Light Weight title by defeating Ede Emmanuel Peter by unanimous decision.

In hisĀ  speech at Aba Sports Club, venue of the boxing championship, Abia State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development,Ā  Nwaobilor Ananaba said the administration of Governor Alex Otti is deliberate in its efforts to develop sporting activities in the State.

He said the boxing event comprising Feather and Light Weight Championship aligned perfectlyĀ  with the Governor’s sports development policy aimed at discovering raw talents in sports.

Speaking at the Championship, the President of Nigeria BoxingĀ  Board of Control, NBB of C, Rafiu Ladipo, said sports is the major factor unifying Nigerians, urging the government at all levels to giveĀ  moreĀ  attention toĀ  boxing.

Also, AbiaĀ  Abia State Director of Sports,Ā  Obioma George,Ā  said thatĀ  the professional boxing championship wasĀ  the first of its kind to be witnessed in Abia State.

The event featured handover of the boxing ring procured on behalf of the state government by an ex-boxer of Abia origin, Mr. Ikechukwu Okoronkwo.
