Between a management of the Compagnie bancaire de l’Afrique occidentale (CBAO) in Senegal which refuses dialogue and workers who are determined to obtain justice before any renewal, the arms race between the CBAO and the members of the Unique Syndicat des travailleurs de la banque (Sutbef) continues more and more. The CBAO wishes to organize a new election of the personnel delegates, but the Sutbef is campaigning on a “principle” position, “not of renewal without reintegration of the comrades radiés”. According to the Journal Les Echos, the list submitted by the union for these elections was rejected by the management on the grounds that the three delegates dismissed were present. On the other hand, the trade union does not intend to comply with this injunction. For Raoul Kaly, an active member of the Sutbef, “this would be a betrayal of the trade union cause and a form of silent repression. It is a question of solidarity and dignity. We will never accept to organize a general assembly to renew the delegates as long as our comrades will not be blanchised and reintegrated.
