Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika played for Club Brugge, who secured a 2-1 victory over Union SG to win their 18th Belgian Super Cup title on Sunday, extending their record. Onyedika contributed for 13 minutes as Club Brugge turned the game around, avenging their previous 2-1 loss to Union SG in last year’s Super Cup. The match began with both teams aggressively seeking an early goal, but Union SG struck first in the 15th minute via Franjo Ivanovic, who received a pass from a teammate and scored with precision. Club Brugge found an equalizer in the 31st minute through a penalty converted by Christos Tzolis. The Belgian team continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with a goal one minute into first half stoppage time, with Hans Vanaken scoring to make it 2-1. Onyedika has now secured his first Belgian Super Cup title at Club Brugge. This is the 24-year-old’s second trophy with the club, following his contribution to their league title win in the 2023/2024 season. Onyedika transferred to Club Brugge from Midtjylland in August 2022 after inking a five-year deal. He was also part of the Super Eagles team that drew 1-1 with Russia in an international friendly in Moscow last June, and he played under former coach Jose Peseiro in the Super Eagles squad that finished as runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote d’Ivoire.
